Rajasthan HC issues notice to Lalit Modi

Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court Friday issued notice to Indian Premier League (IPL) supremo Lalit Modi to explain why his bail in a cheating case shouldn't be cancelled for leaving the country without the permission of the court.
Justice S.P. Pathak issued the notice to Modi, who is also the vice-president of the Indian cricket board and currently is in South Africa for the IPL.
The case of alleged cheating against Modi was filed by Nagrik Morcha, an NGO. Nagrik Morcha alleged that Modi didn't give money pledged by him during an IPL match last year for the Jaipur blast victims. Modi has been charged under section 420 (cheating) and 467 (forgery) of IPC.
The money was pledged by the IPL sponsors and franchises, but after the match only two sponsors did not send the pledged amount, Modi clarified recently. In a statement, he termed the charges as false and baseless, and said that it is nothing but vindictiveness on the part of the police.
The court had granted bail to Modi on grounds that he won't leave the country without the court's permission.
Last month, Modi failed to get re-elected as the president in the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) elections. He lost by five votes to Sanjay Dixit, a senior bureaucrat in the Rajasthan government.
