People don't feel unsafe: Pune top cop April 3, 2010
Pune: The brutal gang-rape of a MBA student in broad daylight in Pune has not only shocked the residents of the city but also threatens to cause irreparable damage to its reputation of being quite safe for women. However, Pune's top cop doesn't feel the same.

Speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN, Satyapal Singh, Pune Police Commissioner said that it would be unfair to term the city as unsafe.

If on or two serious incidents take place on road it does not mean that the roads have become unsafe," said Singh.

He instead termed the criticism facing his department for not providing protection in places outside Pune as 'media creation' and insisted that the people of the city don't feel unsafe.

"Whatever serious cases have taken place in the past..all cases have been detected and all accused have been arrested...in this case also 2 accused were immediately arrested," he added.

The Police Commissioner assured that the third accused has been identified and would soon be arrested.

Singh nevertheless refused to comment on allegations that the third accused was still not arrested because he is believed to have political patronage.

On being asked what steps have been taken by police to improve the security for women working at various BPOs in the city, Singh said that his department has 'sensitized' the companies on safety of female employees.
