Patna: The 8-day Bihar hostage crisis ends with the Naxals freeing the three abducted policemen Sub-Inspector Abhay Prasad Yadav, Havaldar Mohammad Ehsaan and Trainee Sub-Inspector Rupesh Kumar Sinha. The three hostages were found in the jungles of Lakhisarai.
Four policemen were kidnapped last Sunday during an encounter with Maoists in Lakhisarai. One of them, Havaldar Lukas Tete, was killed by the Maoists. His body was found on Friday.
The recent development comes after the Maoists on Sunday claimed to have released the three Bihar policemen taken hostage on August 29 but the state government said it had no information as the agonising wait for their families continued.
Hopes of an end to the hostage crisis were dashed when there was no trace of the abducted policemen several hours after the Maoists claimed they had released them.
