Vijay wins silver in shooting World Cup April 22, 2009
New Delhi: Indian shooter Vijay Kumar won the silver in the men's 25 meters rapid fire pistol event in the ISSF World Cup in Beijing Wednesday.

Vijay, who had won a gold in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, shot 581 in the qualifying round and was at the fourth position. But in the finals, he shot an excellent score of 199.4 (totalling 780.4) and won the silver medal -- missing the gold by a mere 0.1 point, according to information received here.

The gold medal was won by Sanderson Keith of the US with a score of 780.5 (584 qualifying +196.5 final) while Akiyama Teruyoshi of Japan won the Bronze with 777.5 (579+198.5).

It was the second medal for India in the World Cup. Teenager Heena Sidhu won the silver in the women's air pistol event Tuesday.
