First Ibis hotel opens in Gurgaon August 27, 2008
New Delhi, InterGlobe Hotels, a joint venture between InterGlobe Enterprises and French hotel group Accor to develop a chain of hotels in India under the Ibis brand, has opened its first property in Gurgaon, which is fast emerging as IT and MNC hub on the national capital's outskirts.

This is the first of a series of Ibis hotels the joint venture, launched in 2004, is developing in India.

The Ibis Gurgaon is located on the prominent Golf Course artery and features contemporary European styling, 217 rooms, an all-day dinning restaurant, a bar and meeting room.

"The hotel is uniquely positioned in the Indian hotel pricing spectrum and at Rs.4,400, is priced at less than half that of upscale hotels," a company statement said.

"Ibis hotels in India will provide a value offer and will cater to the burgeoning business and leisure travellers in India. The brand espouses the values of quality, simplicity and value and will be positioned as the best value international hotels in India, for those consumers willing to trade off luxuries but not comfort," the statement said.

"Casual and friendly, the hotels will feature an outstanding room with modular bathroom, quality food and beverage and a high-tech environment," it added.

InterGlobe Hotels today has a further 11 Ibis hotels at various stages of development across India, adding up to 2,045 rooms and exceeding the initial short-term targets. Ibis hotels under development are located at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Mumbai and Pune. Ibis Mumbai and Pune are likely to be operational before mid 2009.

"InterGlobe Hotels has an active development programme for Ibis hotels in India and it is expected that another six Ibis hotel sites will be added in 2008," the statement said.

The Ibis development project in India is part of a major expansion of the brand across the Asia Pacific region. Up to 200 Ibis hotels are planned for China, while Ibis is also growing strongly in Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, South Korea and Thailand.

Headquartered in Gurgaon, InterGlobe Enterprises has been adjudged as one of the Top 25 Best Work Places 2008 by Great Place to Work Institute. InterGlobe has a network of 52 offices across 23 cities in India, the US and Britain and employs close to 5,000 professionals across its businesses.

These include IndiGo, among India’s fastest growing low-fare airline; InterGlobe General Aviation that represents and services the entire line of HawkerBeechcraft products; development of hotels in partnership with the French major Accor; distribution of Travelport’s Galileo GDS; travel management for 16 international airlines and the Carnival Group’s entire line of cruises, amongst others.
