Haryana seeks quick sanction of nuclear power plant December 5, 2009
Chandigarh: With a high-level delegation of the Nuclear Power Corporation (NPC) of India, concluding its visit to Haryana Friday, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has urged it for fast-tracking 2,800 (4x700) MW nuclear power plant so that it could be set up in the state soon.

Hooda and NPC officials, including its chairman and managing director S.K. Jain, held discussions in New Delhi Friday on the project.

The NPC delegation had earlier visited the proposed site of the nuclear power plant in villages Gorakhpur and Kumharia in Haryana's Fatehabad district.

Hooda expressed his government's commitment to complete all pre-project activities required for the nuclear power project expeditiously.

He said as Haryana would be providing land and water for this power project, it would plead for 100 percent share of power generated from the project.

The pre-project activity was scheduled to be completed by 2010-11 or early 2012 and the construction of first and second units was to be started by March 2012. But Hooda stressed for advancing its construction.

Jain said the NPC would try to expedite the project activity.

"The NPC is getting full support of the Haryana government in setting up of this project in the State and we assure that we will complete the construction work at the earliest," Jain added.
