New Delhi, After Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samajwadi Party demanding a judicial probe into the Batla house encounter in which two alleged terrorists were killed and two escaped, two key allies of the ruling United Progressive Alliance government mainly Rashtriya Janta Dal and Lok Jan Shakti Party have also jump into the fray mounting pressure for a similar probe into the incident.

However, the UPA government is unlikely to oblige its partners despite the pressure, as it would amount to weakening the moral of the security and police forces, a home ministry official said.

What the government might do to please its allies and the leaders of the Muslim community who have doubted the authenticity of the encounter is that a senior official of home ministry could be asked to go to Jamia Nagar to assuage their feelings and hold discussion with the residents and look into the merit of the judicial demand.

Interestingly, Muslim members of the Congress party have also echoed same sentiments and asked for a judicial probe to the matter. The party leadership is in a fix over the issue, as it doesn't want to antagonize the Muslim community before the assembly elections in six states of which Muslims hold key influence in many constituencies in the states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Delhi.

A senior Muslim Member of Parliament who does not wish to be identified said that the overwhelming view of the Muslim community of the Jamia Nagar about the shootout is that the authenticity of encounter was doubtful. They are of the firm view that the manner in which it was carried out raises many eyebrows and party should firmly stay behind the community.

He indicated that the government is examining the veracity of the case and demand made by different political outfits including some member of the ruling Congress party. However, with the assembly elections in Delhi coming closer, the UPA government at the centre is treading a cautious path.
