Nod to Himachal's first community FM radio station April 22, 2008
Shimla, April 22: Permission has been granted for the opening of Himachal Pradesh's first FM radio station in Solan town.

"A letter has been received from the information & broadcasting ministry to open (the radio station) at Solan by the M.S. Panwar Institute of Journalism," said B.S. Panwar, director of the institute on Tuesday.

The FM station will be available within a 15-km range of Solan town, 48 km from here.

The FM signals will also be available to commuters on much of the busy Kalka-Shimla national highway.

Community FM radios are allotted to non-government organizations (NGOs) and are allowed limited advertisements.
