Ever had a dream that appeared so real at the time that you couldn’t help but wonder what it meant? It’s natural to feel that a recurrent dream has some connection to your life. Now you may feel like another Imran Khan from Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na who was often disturbed with the dream of riding a horse, but worry not! Experts don’t find anything unusual about recurrent dreams.
We got our dream analyser, Gargi Arora to interpret a few of the most common recurring dreams.
The sensation of falling
According to Freudian theory, dreams of falling indicate that you are contemplating giving into a sexual urge or impulse. These dreams typically occur during the first stage of sleep and are often accompanied by muscle spasms of the arms, legs or the whole body.
Falling in dreams is also symbolic of certain changes that you are trying to avoid or unable accept.
According to biblical interpretations, dreams about falling have negative overtones and suggest that you are acting according to your own way of thinking and not that of the Lord’s. If you are having these dreams often, you may need to ask yourself if you are taking the right decisions in life and not trying to avoid who you are.
Flying or floating
Floating in dream shows that you are able to rise above certain situations without being affected or causing harm to yourself. It is all in your mind. Life is a learning curve. The best gift you can give yourself is “Going Beyond”.
Nakedness in a public place
Are you going through feelings of guilt? Being nude is symbolic of being exposed. You probably want to wash your guilt off but at the same time you are scared that people will get to know something about you that you don’t want them to know. Realisation of your actions will not help you rectify your mistakes, but learn to balance your energies. We all err! Once a lesson is learnt, move on!
Losing teeth or the ability to speak
Teeth in dreams are very common and are a very important indication of your emotional state. Losing teeth indicate that you are ill at ease emotionally. There may be some instance in the near future which can lead to an emotional outburst. Many dreams about losing teeth come at a time of change, such as when leaving home for the first time or when a relationship or an attachment has ended.
Sometimes these dreams mean that you need help in developing your "bite" (your assertive side). If you dream that your teeth are knocked out by someone else, then this indicates financial problems brought about by that person. Having bridge work done to your teeth indicates that you have to pay more attention to your plans rather than hoping for the best. Brushing your teeth in a dream indicates that you will have obstacles to overcome while a set of false teeth signifies that you might receive unexpected help from another person.
Being killed
Do you often get dreams in which you are being killed or murdered by friends, animals and even your parents? If the dream is recurrent it could mean that you are being hurt repeatedly. But remember, nobody can ride on you unless you bend yourself. Murder in your dream is symbolic of the killing of your spirit. Do not look to others for support. Create support for yourself.
Lizards
Lizards are flexible and adaptive to their environment. Hence, it could be symbolic of going with the flow and overcoming adverse external conditions. The lizard comes with a message about your responsibility to recognise these hidden gifts and skills so that you may avoid harm and live freely and happily as you are designed to live.
Snakes
In the pre-Christian days, snakes were considered symbols of fertility, healing, and nurturing but later were associated with temptation, evil, anger, and envy.
Snakes emerging out of the ground may represent your unconscious or repressed thoughts coming to your conscious mind.
In many dreams, you may be bitten after a brief struggle. To your amazement though, you will not die, and may find that the situation is not as bad as you thought. You might have this kind of dream if you are struggling with some problem, relationship or challenge. Such a snake-ordeal is an important signal that you are going through a kind of initiation; a psychological or spiritual trial that has the potential to change your life for the better if you deal with it bravely and with a clear heart.
Snakes generally increase the level of anxiety whether in waking state or dreams. If you find the snake coiling around your feet or trapping you, there is someone definitely who doesn’t want you to walk ahead. Just watch out! Generally the bigger the snake is, the bigger the problem confronting you may be.
Rats with big eyes
Rats in dreams are symbolic of some kind of fear. This is also an indication that you need to calm your fears at the right time. Be confident about tackling the situation. Big eyes indicate a certain surprise that you are likely to see soon. So it’s a good idea to prepare you self and be strong.
Water
Water is related to the flow of emotions. Muddy water signifies anxiety and stress that is going on in your life. Clean water foretells prosperity ahead. There might also be a rise in your spirituality level.
Lions
The lion is a symbol of strength and power. So while one interpretation of having seen a lion is that you are about to have a valuable friendship, the other is that you have to watch out for your egocentric qualities. Check out for your pride for sometimes success can go to your head.
Lions are the king of the jungle and symbolise royalty. In a woman’s dream, it may represent the male aspect of her psyche. A Freudian interpretation considers lions to represent the powerful and admired aspect of the father.
It may also symbolise your ‘animal’ nature or your aggressiveness and will power.
