By-elections in three states next month November 24, 2008
New Delhi, By-elections for seven legsilative assembly seats in Karnataka, three in West Bengal and one in Manipur will be held next month, the Election Commission announced Sunday.

The polling for the 11 assembly seats will be held Dec 27 and the counting will take place Dec 30, a poll panel official said.

The notification will be issued Dec 3, the last date for filing nominations is Dec 10 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is Dec 14.

The seats in Karnataka are Doddaballapur, Maddur, Turuvekere, Arabhavi, Deodurga, Karwar and Hukkeri.

In West Bengal, the constituencies going to by-polls are Sujapur in Malda district due to the death of legislator Ruby Noor (Congress) in July, Para in Purulia district, as legislator Bilasibala Sahis (CPI-M) resigned after getting elected to district council, and Nandigram in Midnapore East district following the resignation of legislator Mohammed Ilyas (CPI).
