Cricket still a passion in Caribbean, asserts Sobers June 10, 2008
Sydney, June 10: Sir Garfield Sobers has strongly refuted the claims of fading Caribbean interest in cricket, and asserted that the game is still strong in the country which ruled in the late 'seventies.

In an interview to Sydney Morning Herald, Sobers was miffed when asked whether he sees West Indian performance against the mighty Australians as the revival of cricket in the island.

"If it's the West Indian team you are talking about, then I must reserve my judgement until they have shown an ability to perform consistently," Sobers said.

"But if this is about general interest in the game, then that is a different matter. I keep hearing this all the time that people have lost passion for cricket in the region. But that's not what I see at all. Everywhere, the game is being played. If cricket is fading, I must be silly."
