New Delhi, In the wake of economic crisis in United Sates of America and its virtual impact on India the Congress President Sonia Gandhi has constituted a high level committee to take a stock of the situation arising out of global melt down.
The committee will meet senior officers of the Finance Ministry and get first hand report of the current financial scenario arising out of credit crunch in America and submit a detailed report to Congress President Sonia Gandhi within a week.
Highly placed source has said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi today called up Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and congratulated him for his highly successful visit, in which landmark Nuclear agreement was signed with France and Indo-US Nuclear agreement would also be inked soon.
Discussed among other things, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has assured Congress President Sonia Gandhi of any adverse financial fall out and added that India is insulated from this global crisis, Sources said.
Infact, Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi is very anxious about the coming assembly election to be held in the five states of Chhattishgarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Madhy Pradesh.
The assembly elections are very crucial for Congress Party as this election will have direct bearing on the central government and in the next general election to be held in April next year, said a senior party official.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister P Chidambaram has also briefed the Congress president about the current economic upheaval and explained her government's position.
