Congress Party scouting for new alliance KUSHAL JEENA October 4, 2008
New Delhi, From North to South and East to West, the Congress Party is now scouting for new alliances to bridge the gap that has come up with souring relations between Congress and Samajwadi Party ahead of the next general election.

Meanwhile, the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance is all set for a quiet burial as both the party refuse to budge from their stated position, said a senior leader of Samajwadi Party.

Interestingly, Ramvilas Paswan, President, Lok Jan Shakti Party has indicated that his party is not interested in forging alliance with the Congress Party in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections mainly because RJD is cozying up with Congress Party and the Janata Dal leader and Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar gaining considerable foothold in the state.

Paswan has been leveling a charge in private conversation with the scribes that UPA government has failed in tackling inflation and not doing enough to control internal security, The LJP leader says he is worried over these issues as they are directly concerned with the people.

However, Trinamool Congress leader, Mamata Bannerjee is all set to align with Congress Party in the next general election as the Congress has given her much elbow room on the Singur issue to fight a sustained battle with the Left. Besides her love with BJP was more for Atal Behari Vajpayee than BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate L.K Advani.

In fact, Congress Party's dilemma in south has also increased with DMK keeping tight lipped on the next alliance even State Congress leaders are also not happy with the with the state of affairs in Tamil Nadu.

With new realignment the Congress Party is hopeful to rope in new partners for the upcoming general elections. The ruling party sees her electoral prospects going up as the coming up of a third front looks a distant dream and left is increasingly looking jittery at this juncture. The torch-bearer of the Left parties Prakash Karat has himself admitted that the process of the formation of a third alternative would have to put on hold.
