New Delhi, The Congress has set in motion a process to identify the issues that could be incorporated in the party manifesto for the next year Lok Sabha elections to highlight UPA government's achievements to attract electorates.
The Congress President Sonia Gandhi has entrusted her most trusted leader Pranab Mukheerjee with the responsibility of preparing a please-all election manifesto for the next Lok Sabha elections.
``The UPA government's biggest farm loan waiver will be the main attraction of the election manifesto as it has benefited an estimated 40 million farmers of the country, said Verappa Moily, Spokesman, Congress Party.
Beside this, Congress Party is planning to hold meetings with various artisan, farmers, and labour unions organizations to ascertain their views on the planks party has planned for the polls. The party would also talk to various trade bodies to seek their views before drafting election manifesto.
Senior Congress Leader and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee head the manifesto committee. The Congress president has also constituted a sub- committee, which is consisted of M Veerappa Moily, Mani Shanker Aiyer and Arjun Sengupta to fine tune various suggestions received by the party leadership.
The ruling party, however treading cautiously skyrocketing rise in the prices of essential commodities as it has badly hit their `Aaam Adami' Plank, avers a member of Congress Working Committee, an apex decision-making body of the party.
With the Indo-US nuclear under its belt and has propelled the party to a new horizon ending 34 years of nuclear apartheid will also be a mainstay for the party manifesto, said Moily.
This is the first time that party has resorted to such exercise before the preparation of election manifesto, said Major Ved Prakash, Secretary, Congress.
