"Citizens of Delhi are intelligent and so they will vote for the Congress," promptly reacted Sheela Dixit ,Chief Minister of Delhi answering to a question raised by Barkha Dutt during the " Capital Debate" on NDTV.
It is clear that the Congress has no slogan for the electorates. There are neither any plans nor an agenda or even a worthwhile manifesto to approach the voters. It seems that the Congress has already given up to the incumbency factor which is expected to sweep the polls during this weekend or has left the results to fate acomply. The only hope for the Congress is the controversial "BRT" , in which Ms.Sheela Dixit takes pride in as a futuristic plan for Delhi besides CNG which has helped the city to be clean.
Mr.V .K Malhotra, Chief Ministerial candidate of the BJP and the main opposition for the Congress , on the other hand is harping on Law & Order which has nothing to do with the state government since constitutionally Law & Order is the under the "Centre". Mr Malhotra's favorite subject is BRT which covers only 5 kms of entire capital city. The "CM" candidate's speech begins and ends 'within the 5kms'. He too seems to have given up as far as issues are concerned and hopes to bank upon the incumbency factor which will be the only savior for BJP.
The third contestants 'BSP' have their own agenda, and that is to make a "mark" during these elections. If one follows the election campaign closely BSP seems to have being raising certain pertinent questions like Labour Law, Rights of the industrial workers besides factors which affect the daily life of the daily wager. But in real terms they are far from winning any election but will definitely cut across the Congress vote bank.
Healthcare is one of the basic fundamental rights of Indian citizens. Still the middle class suffer the most. According to the World Bank figures from 15% in 1947 today 80% avail of private treatment, despite financial constraints 54% of the middle class are forced to opt for private treatment at the expensive private hospitals. INSTEAD OF FINDING A SOLUTION, WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT BUSY FIGHTING WITH THE HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATIONS OR ATTACKING LIFE STYLES?
Recently a 15 years child developed fever. On the third day, his parents took him to a physician who was attached to one of the 5 star hospitals. He was wrongly diagnosed and given antibiotics, which is fatal for dengue. The child died on the sixth day. The total bill - Rs. 7.5 lacs. Private hospitals encourage elaborate investigations and treatment procedures irrespective of actual needs. Insurance companies, in most cases, refuse to settle such claims. WHY ARE THERE NO REGULATORY BODIES FOR THE 5 STAR HOSPITALS, NO CHECKS OR LAWS FOR RUNNING THE ILL EQUIPPED NURSING HOMES WHICH HAVE MUSHROOMED IN THE CITY?
The recent toll in Mumbai is eye opening for those responsible for the Governance in Delhi. 'Politicians should lay off this situation' said Shobha Dey in an interview with NDTV expressing the sentiments of Mumbaikars. It is time for the politicians to ascertain that Delhites do not lose faith in them. The Centre and State in the capital city should jointly take up Law and order with a necessary amendment in the present constitution. The blames and counter-blames have to stop and the crisis infrastructure be in place. God forbid a situation where the CM looks up to the CP Delhi while Delhites look up to the CM in vain. In this political battle the issues concerning the lives of Delhites are dumped for the present with a hope that they will be addressed in the near future. May be before the next elections!
