SpiceJet reduces fares, withdraws congestion fees

New Delhi, Low-cost carrier SpiceJet Wednesday announced a cut in fares up to 15 percent on tickets purchased in advance, besides withdrawing congestion charges.
The carrier, however, did not spell out how many days ahead a ticket has to be purchased to avail of the benefit.
In a statement, SpiceJet chief commercial officer Samyukth Sridharan said: "Fares on our network will be now significantly lower on advanced purchase. We have removed the congestion charge completely. With improved infrastructure available, we do not face this problem anymore. So we want to pass on the benefit to the customers."
The move comes amidst fears that Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines would increase fares following their strategic alliance announced Monday night.
Indian carriers currently charge Rs.150 as congestion charge per ticket against additional flying time owing to traffic at airports.
Sridharan said the airlines will also re-launch its services to Jaipur from October 26.
