Lawson says experience can make Malik a good Pak captain October 29, 2008
Lahore, Sacked Pakistani cricket coach Geoff Lawson has said that if (Pakistan) captain Shoaib Malik gets some experience, he could turn out to be a good captain for his national team.

“If Malik gets some experience, he could prove to be a good captain,” the Daily Times quoted Lawson as telling reporters at the Gaddafi Stadium last evening.

Malik was appointed captain after Pakistan made a first round exit from the World Cup in the West Indies last year.

But, he was sacked last week, only three days after new PCB chairman Ijaz Butt had said that Lawson was “useless” and that his performance would be reviewed before the home series against India in January.

After firing Lawson, the PCB appointed former Test captain Intikhab Alam.

Lawson was hired as coach on a two-year contract by the previous head of the PCB, Nasim Ashraf. However, the PCB terminated his contract nine months early after Ijaz took over as PCB chairman earlier this month. “It was an honour for me to coach the Pakistan team. I wish to come again to Pakistan on a leisure trip, not as a coach,” said Lawson post sacking orders.
