Italy risk missing Cannavaro at Euro 2008 June 3, 2008
Milan, June 3: Italy's captain Fabio Cannavaro suffered an ankle injury on Monday during the world champions' first training session at their Euro 2008 camp in Austria, raising fears he might be sidelined for the competition.

Italian media said the 34-year-old Real Madrid defender hurt his left ankle in a clash with Giorgio Chiellini, a defender from Cannavaro's former team Juventus, as the Azzurri trained at a stadium outside Wien in Austria.

A fracture appears to have been ruled out, but doctors won't be able to ascertain the scope of the injury for two days.

Cannavaro has played 116 times for the Azzurri. In 2006, in the wake of Italy's fourth World Cup triumph, he won the Golden Ball and the FIFA World Player awards.
