RIL’s Hazira Unit Bags 'Golden Peacock Award” for Combating Climate Change - 2008' June 3, 2008
Mumbai, June 3, 2008: Reliance Industries Limited’s Hazira Manufacturing Division won the'Golden Peacock Award for Combating Climate Change - 2008' (GPACCC). The award was presented to RIL at a special gala awards event at the Global Convention on Climate Change held on May 30, 2008 at Himachal Pradesh, by Shri Premkumar Dhunal, Chief Minister,HP and Mr. Ola Ulsten, Former Prime Minister of Sweden.

Each year, the GPACCC is given to organizations that have set high standards and createdbenchmarks for combating climate change. RIL’s Hazira Manufacturing Division won this prestigious award this year. Hazira won this acclaim for having made the most significant achievement and contribution to protect the health of the planet.

The Golden Peacock Awards jury is chaired by Justice P N Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of India and Member, UN Human Rights Commission.

Shri Hardev Singh Kohli, Executive Director said on winning this award “Reliance is committed to promoting energy efficiency as much as controlling Green House Gases and has initiated a number of Clean Development Mechanism projects. The sustainability reports published by Reliance annually carries a passionate appeal from our Chairman Shri Mukesh Ambani to all its stakeholders to serve the cause of environment protection and contribution to reduction inenergy consumption to give benefits in a sustained manner not only to the present generation but also to the future generation when energy resources will be dwindling. The Golden Peacock Award for Combating Climate Change is a testimony of RIL’s efforts in this sphere.”

The CO2 emission mitigation offers an attractive commercial opportunity as part of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM); RIL and thus its Hazira Manufacturing Division are actively involved in the development of CDM projects through RIL’s Central CDM cell and its manufacturing units.
