Justice on 7/11 Mumbai blast put on holdMarch 1, 2008
The fight for justice for the families of 187 victims who died in the Mumbai train blasts has been put on hold.
The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the trial in several cases after the accused, booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), challenged the constitutional validity of the Act.
A set back for the Mumbai police, which claims it had built up a watertight case.
The accused claim that terrorism related cases come under the purview of the Union Government and not state governments.
Sushil Kumar, an advocate accused in the crime said, ''Our case is challenging the application of MCOCA. There is a provision for insurgency in the law. Maharastra legislature has not power to make law on terrorism. Supreme Court has admitted our petition and stayed the trial in three cases.''
