PM asks Pranab, PC to head IPL probe April 23, 2010
New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has moved from the cricket pitch to the political arena. Following allegations of financial irregularities and betting by IPL Chairman Lalit Modi, and income tax raids on franchisees and companies associated with the multi-million dollar league, the Government has decided to get to the bottom of the alleged scams.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has now deployed his most trusted aides to investigate the ongoing IPL controversy.

Sources has told that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram will investigate the alleged scam which surfaced during Lalit Modi-Shashi Tharoor clash over the ownership of IPL Kochi team.

It is also learnt that the Prime Minister is adopting a holistic approach to address the issue. He is believed to have met Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) member Rajiv Shukla who is believed to have briefed him on the issue. He also met Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on the issue.

It is interesting to note that in the past a clash of ego had ensued between Chidambaram and Modi over the IPL venue in 2009 which ultimately led the IPL chief to shift the league to South Africa.
