Scissor-happy salon pays for snipping zeal November 8, 2009
Raipur: A visit to a beauty parlour turned into a nightmare for 33-year-old homemaker Smita Singh.

Now a consumer forum in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, has fined the errant parlour and directed it to pay her
Rs 3,000 as damages.

Singh, who had long, lustrous hair, complained after a beautician at the Kay Lee Kents Slimming and Beauty Clinic pruned her tresses more than she had asked for.

After consulting Kajal Lenka, director of the parlour, she had asked the beautician to trim her
hair by 1.5 inches.

But the beautician pruned it by 10 inches.

Accusing the parlour of laxity and negligence, Singh approached the district consumer dispute redressal forum.

On October 27, the consumer forum ruled in her favour. Forum president Nirmal Minj said the parlour’s lax service had “diminished” the complainant’s beauty.

The forum directed the parlour to pay Rs 3,000 as a fine for causing mental agony to the complainant; Rs 1,000 for expenses incurred by Singh in the case and to return the Rs 300 fee the beautician had charged her.
