New Delhi, The Congress has decided to ink the controversial Indo-US civilian nuclear deal taking the risk of fall of the government at the centre. It has been made clear to the Left parties that the government cannot walk out of its international obligation.

The party sources said UPA government's chief negotiators with the Left parties Pranab Mukherjee while taking strong exception of the Left parties stand on the nuke deal clearly told them the government and the Congress party has decided to go ahead with the deal come what may.

During the yesterday's meeting of the UPA-Left coordination committee, Mukherjee gave a point by point rebuttal of the objections raised by the Leftists saying the government is fully convinced that the deal is in the interest of the nation and would go a log way to the rising energy demands of the country.

The sources say the UPA leaders Ram Vilas Paswan and Lalu Yadav made serious attempts to persuade the Left leaders to bring about some changes in their stand not to pave the way for the return of the BJP to power. Refusing to budge from their stand on the deal, the Left leaders Pakash Karat and A B Bardhan reportedly left it to the government saying the fall or survival of the government depends on the government. "We don't want to pull down the government. If they go to IAEA, we would be left with no option than to withdraw our support," Karat reportedly told the UPA representatives.

According to sources at the heat of the moment, Mukherjee said the government and the party is fully prepare to face early elections adding they won't be responsible if the BJP comes back to power. In an attempt to reach out some last time solution, the CPI (M) polit bureau member Sitaram Yechuri once again called on Mukherjee this morning. The core committee of the Congress would also be meeting in the evening to formulate party's further strategy vis-a-vis nuclear deal.

Mukherjee reportedly told Left leaders that the government is determine to sign the nuclear agreement with the US even if it sinks into minority in the parliament. The number in the parliament don't stop us to meet our international obligations, Mukherjee told the Left leaders.
