Kolkata, All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi Wednesday held an informal meeting with the top Kolkata clubs and representatives of the IFA to find ways to improve the I-League launched this year.
Talking to reporters after two hours of discussions with officials, Dasmunsi said: "We had an informal discussion on how to improve I-league and the general structure of the game in the country. I have made a note of the points that have come up and will discuss these in the meeting of the core committee."
Indian Football Association (IFA) Secretary U K Ganguly later said, "We can't call it a meeting technically. It was a discussion with the top clubs of the city on how to improve the I-league structure. There was nothing on the agenda, but we talked on a wide range of issues related to the betterment of football in the country."
"We also talked on how to improve the National Team's performance and help India get a better image in Asia," he added.
While representatives had come from East Bengal, Chirag United and Mohameddan Sporting, Mohun Bagan was absent, saying the notice for the meeting was too short.
AIFF has undertaken the project of making the National Football League a professional league and renamed it as I-League from this season making it a 10-team affair. It is a part of the AFC GOAL project aiming to overhaul Indian football.
