INX Media to launch entertainment channels in Gulf dmanewsdesk June 18, 2008
Dubai,The Indian television group INX Media has tied up with a Dubai-based media consultancy firm to launch two of its channels in the Gulf and the Middle East.

The company has appointed Media Solutions to oversee the launch of the group's Hindi general entertainment channel 9X and music channel 9XM in the region.

In a statement issued here, Media Solutions managing director Altaf Alimohammad said his company would attempt to replicate the channels' success in India.

"I am confident we can replicate the immense success they have had in India, in the Middle East and beyond," said Alimohammad, who had earlier served in STAR television out of Hong Kong.

INX chairman and chief strategy officer Peter Mukerjea said in the statement: "He is one of the most professional and knowledgeable television executives across the entire Middle East, and I know this first hand from my days at STAR when Altaf was running the Middle East region."

The statement claimed that 9X reached a high of 76 million viewers within a week of its launch.

Among the new shows being planned by the channel are 'Mahaabhaarat', to be launched Aug 5 and a reality talent hunt called 'Kaun Jeetega Bollywood Ka Ticket', to be launched in July.

There are around 5.5 million expatriate Indians in the Gulf.
