Chandigarh,The Haryana government has asked commercial consumers, with loads of 30 KW or above, to switch to energy saving mode and replace conventional bulbs with energy-efficient lighting.

The government has made it mandatory for all the electricity consumers in industrial, commercial and institutional sectors, having connected loads of 30 KW or above, to replace all conventional bulbs and tube lights with Compact Fluorescent lamps (CFL), T-5 of 28 Watt energy efficient tube lights or light emitting diode lamps by Aug 15 at their own cost, an official notification said Monday.

The notification asked the consumers to make use of CFL and T-5 tube lights mandatory for indoor lighting and energy-efficient street lights for outdoor lighting.

According to the notification, these instructions would have to be complied by all the electricity consumers in industrial, commercial and institutional sectors, in all the central government offices and central public sector undertaking institutions, in existing and new colonies and urban areas.

The government has also instructed the establishment to install energy efficient street lighting systems before March 31, 2009.

In case of non-compliance of these orders, the Power Utilities Department possesses the right to disconnect the electricity connections by serving a due notice after the expiry of the deadlines, an official spokesman said.
