Janta Verdict: John's honest performance might just help the sinking 'Aashayein' August 28, 2010
Aashayein directed by Nagesh Kukunoor was stuck for around one and a half year due to a rift between Percept Picture and distributor Reliance Big Pictures. After a long gap, when the promos were out again, it was evident that the film has lost its freshness.

Nagesh Kukunoor has always chosen interesting subjects for his movies. “Nagesh’s films have a different feel and his story telling is in a very unique manner. That’s why, in spite of Aashayein being ready long time back, I still came to watch it,” says Avinash Kumar.

John Abraham’s performance was generally appreciated. Harsh Shah says, “John Abraham is playing a very complex character. In the first half he is average. But in the second half, which is lot more interesting, John has acted brilliantly.”

Though the storyline was unique, some of the audiences felt that it got boring sometimes.

Pooja Singh says, “John’s plot with a 17 year old girl and the entire Indiana Jones sequence was very interesting. I think, Nagesh was also trying to throw some light on life after death in the film which again was very captivating. But, it got to be a bore after a point as the pace of the film was very slow.”

“The film is very different and has many interesting characters specially the kid who plays Govinda. Nagesh is also telling something about life after death. I feel like valuing my life more after walking out of the theatre because you never know what might happen tomorrow,” says Sumeet Thakur.

Sahil Bhatia says, " The film is a one time watch but the thing is you need to have lot of patience to watch it till the end."

Going by the janta verdict, the film sees a honest performance by the cast but the slow pace of the film seems to be a point of concern.

Another promising film,Antardwand, directed by Sushil Rajpal had a disappointing start at the box office as very few people went to see the film. Also, evening shows at few multiplexes had to be canceled because of no show by the audience.
