Hum Tum Aur Ghost: A complete waste of space March 29, 2010
Director: Kabeer Kaushik
Starring: Arshad Warsi, Dia Mirza
Rating:

"How much calmer can I get? I am dead."

It must have sounded funny to Boman Irani when he read the script.

"Tum Minty Monty se shaadi karne ko taiyaar ho gayi," says Arshad Warsi.

It must have sounded funny to Warsi when he decided to produce the film.

Directed by Kabeer Kaushik, the film is a complete waste of space, shot in London clearly to give everyone involved a little holiday. It may well have been shot in Ghatkopar.

It's the story of a photographer who conveniently works a glossy magazine who is either schizophrenic or actually sees ghosts, supposedly a great mystery that stays till the end of the film. He is in love with the editor of the glossy, played by Dia Mirza, who spends her time flouncing her hair, swishing her short skirts, and bouncing about the streets of London imagining she is Anna Wintour. They spend their time calling each other baby and snuggling up to each other to the amusement of passersby.

I couldn't decide what was more grating. Dia's mile wide smile? Warsi's scruffy drunkenness? Irani's desperate attempt to breathe life into a leaden script? Or Shernaz Patel's faux seriousness as Warsi's psychiatrist (by the way, why do Bollywood psychiatrists wear spectacles and speak in an accent like Shefali Shah in Karthik Calling Karthik?) And why has Bollywood suddenly discovered diseases?

It doesn't matter. The film is so boring that it threatens to put you to sleep. Hum Tum Aur Ghost is guaranteed to make you wish someone dead.
