First Cut: 'Sadiyaan' is emotionally dragging April 3, 2010
Luv Sinha’s debut film Sadiyaan hasn’t been able to create any buzz with the promos. The only hype surrounding the film is that veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha’s son is making a debut to take the legacy forward. When you have such stats before the release of the film, it is definitely not a good sign.

Raj Kanwar has done films of different genres and has got his own success stories. This periodic drama succeeds in putting across the point and how beautifully. But it lacks performances and the entertainment factor.

Rajveer (Rishi Kapoor) and Amrit (Rekha) come to Amritsar from Lahore during Partition and find shelter in a house which was abandoned by Benazir (Hema Malini) and her husband.

But why is it that a debutant has to show all his skills in his first movie itself? Totally filmy style, Luv makes a dramatic entry on a horse, obviously a winner in the race. He breaks into a song more than often. He isn’t a great dancer either. But, he is innocent, promising and doesn’t break away from his character. There is something that he doesn’t try to portray in front of the screen - simplicity and honesty.

Set in the era of the 1970s, Raj Kanwar has shot this film at various locations of Amritsar and has used many heritage structures as props. He has gone back into the books of history, found out their dressing style, how they lived and executed those things with minor details on silver screen.

The first 15-20 minutes of the film sets the stage for the film to go ahead and sweep the minds of the people without letting them blink an eye. It narrates an untold story of Punjab during the Partition and traces the journey of Rajveer and Amrit from Lahore to Amritsar.

Bu the film is emotionally dragging and is like an Ekta Kapoor soap. If you miss some portion of the film, you will not lose track, as the story just doesn't move ahead in the second half.

Rishi and Rekha looked very nice together and have performed exceedingly well. It was a visual delight to see them together. It was magical.

But the lead actors, Luv Sinha and Ferena Wazir, are not able to do justice at all. In spite of having ample space to perform, somehow their performances don’t click. Adnam Sami’s music has a lot of variety, but the title song is the only track which stands out.

Is Luv Sinha here to stay for long? That is for the masses to decide. Definitely the boy is different and promising. Hema Malini’s role is very short but important. The older generation will have a delight watching their favourite stars together, Hema, Rekha, Rishi.
