Gilchrist hits IPL's fastest ton April 28, 2008
Mumbai, April 27: Deccan Chargers' Adam Gilchrist hit the fastest century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in their match against Mumbai Indians here on Sunday.

Gilchrist scored 109 from 48 deliveries while his century came in 42 balls, which helped the team win the match convincingly by 10 wickets.

His century eclipsed the 47-ball 100 by his team mate and compatriot Andrew Symonds against Rajasthan Royals.

Gilchrist's 109 is also his career-best score and his maiden century in Twenty20.

During the course of the innings he hit 10 sixes, the second best in the IPL, next only to Brendon McCullum's 13 for Kolkata Knight Riders against Bangalore Royal Challengers. The only other batsman to hit 10 sixes in an innings in Twenty20 is West Indian, Chris Gayle against South Africa in Johannesburg last September.

Gilchrist's tally of 13 sixes is the second best in the IPL, next only to Brendon McCullum (15).

Among other statistical highlights of the day:

Deccan Chargers registered their first win in four games in the IPL.

Deccan Chargers became the first team to register a 10-wicket win in the IPL. Delhi Daredevils had two nine-wicket triumphs and Chennai Super Kings one.

Mumbai Indians became the first team to lose four successive games in the IPL. They are the only team not to have tasted a victory in the league.

Gilchrist became the first wicketkeeper to post a hundred in the IPL, bettering Sangakkara's 94 for Kings XI Punjab vs. Mumbai at Mohali Friday.

Laxman (36 not out off 29 balls) registered his highest in the IPL, eclipsing his 16 against Rajasthan Royals at Hyderabad Thursday.

Gilchrist and Laxman put on 155 (unbroken) for the opening wicket - the highest partnership for any wicket in the IPL.
