Ahmedabad, April 3: Fiery South African speedster Dale Steyn on Thursday added insult to India's injury by saying that the hosts were taken aback by the charge of the pacers on a lively track and lacked a proper game plan after losing a couple of early wickets.

"The Indians were scared after losing a couple of wickets. Thereafter, they did not know how to cope with it," said Steyn after the day's play at the Sardar Patel Stadium here.

Steyn recorded his best performance yet in the sub-continent, picking up five wickets for 23 runs. He along with Makhaya Ntini (three wickets for 18) and Morne Morkel (two for 20) demolished India with pace and sent them packing for a paltry 76 runs in the first innings in just 20 overs.

"India did not have a proper game plan or strategy. We needed a good start after bowling them out for 76 and we got it. The lead is now over 140 with just four down," he said.

The 24-year-old pacer said that the Indian team was upset with the grass on the pitch, as they wanted a turning track.

"Probably India did not get what they wanted. We were surprised to see this wicket in the subcontinent. We did not change much from what we bowled in Chennai, but the wicket there did not help us much," said Steyn.

He also said that losing the toss turned out to be a blessing in disguise for his side.

"We thought we will bat and guts it out in the first session. But turned out to be a good toss to lose."

"Our game plan against Virender Sehwag worked, but it was the wicket of Rahul Dravid which was most enjoyable," said Steyn.
