Women hockey players honoured dmanewsdesk January 22, 2008
New Delhi,The sports ministry Monday presented cash awards to 14 Indian women hockey players team who performed creditably at the 2004 Asia Cup, 2006 Commonwealth Games and 2006 Asian Games.

Cheques ranging between Rs. 150,000 to Rs. 400,000 were presented to the players by sports secretary S.K. Arora at Shastri Bhawan here.

Speaking on the occasion, Arora said that the ministry would provide full support to the hockey team to motivate them to achieve higher goals.

All 14 players, who were part of the three tournaments, were present on the occasion.

India defeated Japan 1-0 in the final of the Asia Cup in New Delhi. At the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne they bagged the silver and the bronze at the Asian Games in Doha.
