New Delhi: Former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday ended her three-month long defiance and resigned as Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan assembly.
In her resignation letter Raje has reportedly hit out at the party high command for “humiliating” her and alleged that the party lacks democracy.
Fifty-six-year-old leader submitted her resignation letter to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader LK Advani hours before a meeting of the party’s Parliamentary Board.
The letter was presented at the Parliamentary Board meeting by party president Rajnath Singh and it was accepted, senior BJP leader Ananth Kumar told reporters after over an hour-long meeting.
Later in the evening, Raje met BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee along with her MP son Dushyant and said, “I have sent the letter to all the 11 members (of Parliamentary Board) because they were the ones who have taken the decision (on her resignation). I have written to them respectfully.”

She refused to divulge the content of the letter, saying, “I have always been a disciplined member of the party and will always remain one. Whatever happened is something between me and the party.”
However, sources close to Raje said that in the letter she had accused the party high command of “humiliating” her by dealing with her through the media.
She has reportedly alleged that the party lacked democracy in its functioning and that there was no accountability.
Raje also reportedly charged the party of not encouraging women.
When asked about this, Raje told reporters that she had always worked for promoting women in Rajasthan.
In her letter, Raje is understood to have said there had been a “continuous decline” of the party due to lack of proper leadership and accountability.
