Mayawati to PM, if UPA falls: Bardhan Kushal Jeena July 19, 2008
New Delhi, July 18: The general secretary of CPI A B Bardhan has said BSP supremo Mayawati could be the next prime minister of the country in case UPA government fails to prove its majority in the Lok Sabha on July-22 trust vote.

Talking to reporters Bardhan said Mayawati if made would be a better prime minister as she has good administrative skills. Bardhan is batting for Mayawati after she agreed to join hands with the Left parties in toppling the government on Indo-US civilian nuclear deal.

A crucial meeting of the Central committee of the CPI (M) would begin from Saturday to take a call on the trust vote. The issue of Speaker Somnath Chatterjee declining to resign from the office ahead of the voting may also figure in the meeting.

Meanwhile, rebellion is gaining ground in the BJD as four of its MPs have threatened to go for cross voting on the trust motion giving sleepless nights to the handlers of the NDA who claimed to have requisite number to pull down the government, but not prepared to form an alternative government.
